Although Mazzocco is a small family-owned winery, our vineyard sources are among the best in the world. Most of Mazzocco’s grapes come from owners Ken and Diane Wilson’s diverse Wilson Family Estate Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. These valleys are renowned for producing superior quality fruit. Mazzocoo winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines surrounding the winery. Renown for its single vineyard-designate Zinfandels—wines so robust and sumptuous, they’re unforgettable. Mazzocco Zins are remarkably individual in nature—a characteristic shared with their award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. “It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favarro. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Dark, garnet color; Juniper and pencil shavings on the nose with notes of vanilla and honey, medium-body with dark candied cherries and raspberries on the palette and a very smooth finish of soft cherry.

Tasted at the 2010 Zap wine festival and I only captured the numeric rating. I’ll have to taste again to get more detailed notes.

medium bodied - soft tannins, delicious jammy fruit, very smooth. Loved it.

Tasting Notes:

Sublimely floral, plush and spicy. An inviting array of wild blackberry, raspberry and violet flavors persist on the mouth finishing with dabs of honey and cinnamon. The tannins are lush and plentiful ending with vanilla bean, mirabelle plum jam and a dusting of chocolate.

The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. Bottled unfined.
