Mazzocco Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Smith Orchard Reserve 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Grapes from Smith Orchard vineyard, perched at 2400 feet elevation, are among the last in the Dry Creek Valley region to be harvested, resulting in a wine of immense richness with ultra-fine tannins. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and bottled unfined.

Although Mazzocco is a small family-owned winery, our vineyard sources are among the best in the world. Most of Mazzocco’s grapes come from owners Ken and Diane Wilson’s diverse Wilson Family Estate Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. These valleys are renowned for producing superior quality fruit. Mazzocoo winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines surrounding the winery. Renown for its single vineyard-designate Zinfandels—wines so robust and sumptuous, they’re unforgettable. Mazzocco Zins are remarkably individual in nature—a characteristic shared with their award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. “It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favarro. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California. Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Tasting Notes:

Brambly, brilliantly floral, and spicy. An inviting array of wild blackberry, raspberry and spicy flavors persist on the mouth finishing with dabs of hibiscus and rose. The tannins are silken and plentiful ending with baking spices, vanillin oak and a smidgen of mocha.
