Mazzocco Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Pony Reserve 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 vintage was outstanding for Warm Springs Ranch Zinfandel, providing an irresistible opportunity to bottle a selected portion of the wine as a reserve. Grapes from this vineyard, located at 1500 feet elevation on the western mountain ridges of the Dry Creek appellation, produce concentrated, sumptuous and fruit-forward wines. Bottled unfined.

Although Mazzocco is a small family-owned winery, our vineyard sources are among the best in the world. Most of Mazzocco’s grapes come from owners Ken and Diane Wilson’s diverse Wilson Family Estate Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. These valleys are renowned for producing superior quality fruit. Mazzocoo winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines surrounding the winery. Renown for its single vineyard-designate Zinfandels—wines so robust and sumptuous, they’re unforgettable. Mazzocco Zins are remarkably individual in nature—a characteristic shared with their award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. “It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favarro. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California. Tasting Notes:

This strapping Zinfandel is bursting with notes of Bing cherry, currant jam and a touch of hibiscus in the nose. The fruit-forward body is adorned with warm spices such as clove and anise displaying fleshy tannins hinting of chocolate truffles, French oak and traces of cinnamon.
