Mazzocco Petite Sirah Dry Creek Valley Pony Reserve 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2006 vintage was outstanding for Aguilera Petite Sirah, providing an irresistible opportunity to bottle a selected portion of the wine as a reserve. This vineyard, located in the heart of Dry Creek Valley, is an excellent site for cultivating Petite Sirah, bestowing vibrant aromatics to the nose and richly textured tannins on the palate. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. Bottled unfined.

Although Mazzocco is a small family-owned winery, our vineyard sources are among the best in the world. Most of Mazzocco’s grapes come from owners Ken and Diane Wilson’s diverse Wilson Family Estate Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. These valleys are renowned for producing superior quality fruit. Mazzocoo winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines surrounding the winery. Renown for its single vineyard-designate Zinfandels—wines so robust and sumptuous, they’re unforgettable. Mazzocco Zins are remarkably individual in nature—a characteristic shared with their award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. “It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favarro. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California. Tasting Notes:

Essence of violets, cacao and spicy aromas lead to a fleshy palate that is reminiscent of ripe cassis and blackberry. The tannin structure on this Petite Sirah is fleshy and velvety, weaved with flavors of currant and leather, with hints of pecan pie and roasted walnuts.
