Mayacamas Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

In Sanskrit “Maya” was according to the ancient sages of India, the dreamlike world. The estate at Mayacamas Vineyards located on Mt Veeder in the Mayacamas mountain range, is truly dreamlike for winegrowing. This is the coolest of the five mountain AVAs in Napa Valley, with rocky, volcanic, and clay soils. Originally used as a pickle factory, it was later constructed as a winery in 1889. Mayacamas has gone through the test of time: 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Prohitibion, and making of the 1995 film “A Walk in the Coulds”. Mayacamas continues to make authentic, age worthy wines with old world techniques.

Mayacamas Vineyards is a wine estate located in the Mayacamas Mountains that divide the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. The old stone winery is perched on the edge of a dormant volcano crater near the top of Mt. Veeder. Fifty two acres of vineyards are planted on mountain sides ranging from 1,800 to 2,400 feet above sea level. Deer, eagles, coyotes, cougars, foxes, bobcats, and an occasional bear still inhabit this rugged terrain. The winery was built in 1889 by John Henry Fisher, a German immigrant, who first worked as a sword engraver in Philadelphia and then became a pickle merchant in San Francisco. The winery was also used by his family as a summer home and as a ranch to raise and care for the horses he used to deliver pickles to his clients in San Francisco. He sold his wine by the barrel. The barrels were loaded onto horse drawn wagons, driven fifteen miles to the Napa River, and then transferred to ferry boats which took the wine to San Francisco where it was bottled and sold At Mayacamas Vineyards our objective is to make wine with as much flavor, complexity and character as grapes can deliver. Given proper care and enough time, we believe these make the most interesting and enjoyable wines of all. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
