What to Expect

Most famous as the predominant grape in the blended wines of Rioja, Tempranillo has emerged as a potential star in regions as disparate as Australia and California. Tempranillo generally produces medium-bodied wines with juicy acidity and bright raspberry fruit enlivened by notes of dusty earth, dry herbs and leather. Tempranillo is often blended with Grenache, Graciano, and Mazuelo (aka Carignan) in the production of red wine from the Rioja region of Spain.

Possibly the best Vino De La Tierra. The 2004 is quite magnificent; too good to describe. On a par and if not better than Contandor 2005 (100 rating in 2008 Parker review). The Crianza version, the base wine of this seller that goes as simply 'Mauro' is also excellent and to compare value for money it is unbeatable.
To be so bold to say that this wine is the best I have ever had and I will put the remains of my case to ground. I am visiting the grower shortly and you would be advised to stock on 2007 when it comes to the market in 2010/2011. Excellent in all aspects.

Rating: 93/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 109, July/August 2003 ($113) Bright, deep ruby-red. Like a liquid confection on the nose: cherry, raspberry liqueur, roast coffee, mocha and sexy new oak. Sweet, sappy and concentrated; really explodes in the mouth. A huge, solid wine that manages to be light on its feet. Strong mocha and spice components from the wood treatment. Powerfully structured, chewy, three-dimensional wine that finishes with substantial oak tannins and a slight youthful rawness. But the fruit also saturates the palate.
