Matzin Zinfandel Lodi Estate (2005)

The Zinfandel was hand harvested from our Locust Tree Road Vineyard and hand sorted at the winery. Fermentation was completed in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks utilizing specialty yeasts (D-254 and D-80) to further develop the bright berry and cassis aromas. It was aged 15 months in new and older French and American oak barrels. After filtration, it was put into bottle.

From 70+ year old wines, this is a deep, rich Zinfandel. Blackberries, spice and plums predominate the aromas. Hints of chocolate and cedar round out the expansive nose. The small amount of Petite Sirah brings a complex black pepper impression. Flavors follow in the pepper and plum theme. Full and ripe the body is enjoyable without being overdone. Rich in texture the wine lingers for a pleasant supple finish. A great match for barbeque, this wine also works well with stews and other hardy fare.
