Matua Valley Chardonnay 2009

Member Review by Natalie Kronick:

This was a gift from my neighbor who hand-delivered the bottle from NZ himself! Kudos to him!! Anyhow, I don't generally indulge in Chardonnay, unless food is present, like seared scallops in a basil-cream sauce, or something rich. But, I will say, this is quite lovely. Definitely has some French oak on the nose, but light, with a bit of buttery dough aroma from being on fermentation lees for 10 months (got that off the bottle, folks). Soft mouth-feel, light straw color, wonderful finish, very smooth and velvety. OK flavor: starts with a little light butterscotch, ripe peach, soft citrus, develops into a toasted almond or cashew flavor on the finish. wow, long finish.... I'm sipping it now, LOL. Strongly recommend!
