Had this at a company Christmas luncheon today. Bright acidity and dry, but with a more fruit-forward feel than some SBs. Citrus and a hint of green apple, maybe. Very nice with seafood. Would certainly buy this myself, especially at a price around $10.

A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2010 Matua Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

More open and giving than the upscale Paretai bottling, with fruit thatrsquo;s forward and enjoyable, ranging from passion fruit to mango and from nectarine to melon. Sauvignonrsquo;s trademark herbaceousness is here, but in the background, as an accent rather than as the centerpiece.

Bright and tangy, with pineapple, passion fruit and citrus flavors that linger on the lively finish. Drink now.

Light green in colour, passionfruit and citrus fruits fill the nose complimented by complexing flint. The palate is filled with tight passionfruit, melon and lemon fruit. This is all kept in check by the distinctive and chalky Marlborough acidity.

Serves up ripeness, vibrancy and very good concentration, with flavors of grapefruit, gooseberry, mineral and grass. Tart lime peel notes linger. Drink now.

Since its recent acquisition by Beringer Blass, this winery's offerings have become more widely available in the States - there are 25,000 cases of this affordable gem in the U.S. market. This ripe, adequately concentrated Sauvignon Blanc is built around flavors of melon and stone fruits without forsaking the variety's characteristic notes of gooseberries and grapefruit.

Ripe, round and generous, balancing tangy acidity against melon, pear and citrus flavors, which pick up fresh herb notes on the finish. Drink now.

Winemaker's Notes:

Soft in colour with green hues, this Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc shows tropical and citrus fruits along with attractive herbaceous/varietal characters on the nose. The palate is generous and fruit driven with classical Marlborough acidity giving a fresh, clean palate and passionfruit finish.
