Our winemakers are wine lovers, always looking for new ideas and applying the best of them to the production of our own wines. We rely heavily on optimally ripe fruit to make our distinctive wines. We take special pride in the produce extracted from our older vineyards…The last twenty five years have seen the gradual evolution of some very special styles which are getting better with each vintage.
Lime, lime and more lime in this one at present. Tangy, straightforward lime zest in the aromas, and lime juice in the palate. Will try again tomorrow to see if more tropical fruit can be coaxed forward. As it is, tangy and refreshing--a perfect summer sipper. Day 2: Additional notes are herbaceous. Nice freshness, but will keep evaluation as it stands. Very refreshing.
This wine has a pale green-gold color that hints of summer trees just beginning to warm in color. Its scent is that of a recently mowed lawn combined with a touch of tart crab apple. Its has flavors of very tart apple, lime, pineapple and Lemonheads Candy. A great value at around $8.99

Very pale color. Sweaty white grapefruit, turmeric and a smoky nuance on the nose. Dense, juicy and brisk, with pure, peppery, penetrating flavors. A step up in concentration and ripeness from the regular 2004 sauvignon. Shows more ripeness of fruit (grapefruit and orange) on the slightly tart but persistent finish.
Brothers Ross and Bill Spence established Matua in 1973 and were the first to bottle Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand. Today, the winery produces a range of varietals at varying price points. The 2005 is juicy and mouthwatering, vibrant with lemon, quince and mineral aromas and flavors.
