Food Pairings for Matua Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Lime, lime and more lime in this one at present. Tangy, straightforward lime zest in the aromas, and lime juice in the palate. Will try again tomorrow to see if more tropical fruit can be coaxed forward. As it is, tangy and refreshing--a perfect summer sipper. Day 2: Additional notes are herbaceous. Nice freshness, but will keep evaluation as it stands. Very refreshing.
This wine has a pale green-gold color that hints of summer trees just beginning to warm in color. Its scent is that of a recently mowed lawn combined with a touch of tart crab apple. Its has flavors of very tart apple, lime, pineapple and Lemonheads Candy. A great value at around $8.99

Bright, pale lemon-yellow color. Musky aromas of grapefruit and wild mint, with a suggestion of resiny oak. Then dense, spicy and wild on the palate, with fairly full but brisk flavors of grapefruit pith, smoke and truffley earth. This intriguing, soil-driven wine finishes with a refreshing bitter edge.
Bright and jazzy, with a harmonious feel to the lime, pineapple and floral aromas and flavors, lingering on the citrusy finish. The best of three bottles tasted. Drink now.
This jazzy white is generous with its grapefruit, pear and fresh herb aromas and flavors, mingling on the juicy, lively finish. Particularly distinctive for the balance of citrus and stone fruit, along with the harmonious finish. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
Light green in colour, passionfruit and citrus fruits fill the nose complimented by complexing flint. The palate is filled with tight passionfruit, melon and lemon fruit. This is all kept in check by the distinctive and chalky Marlborough acidity.
Brothers Ross and Bill Spence established Matua in 1973 and were the first to bottle Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand. Today, the winery produces a range of varietals at varying price points. The 2005 is juicy and mouthwatering, vibrant with lemon, quince and mineral aromas and flavors.
Sourced from Marlborough. A very fine nose with good delineation, good minerality with touches of limestone, lime and apple. Nice lift and perfume. The palate is finely balanced, minerally, just lacking a touch of tension but very good length and an attractive kiwi fruit tinged finish. Very fine. Drink now-2010.
