Color/Appearance: Very dark purple with great slow lines when swirled. Total Score: 4/5 Nose: Excellent nose. Scents of spice. Score: 4/5 Mouth: Excellent full bodied red wine. We tasted hints of blueberry with a nice spice taste at the end. Excellent Syrah. Score: 5/5 Conclusion: Produced by Crew Wines this 2004 Matchbook Syrah is delightful. The wine is 89% Syrah with 11% cabnernet sauvignon which helps tone down the agressive tannins. This grape grew during a warmer wine season with a cool August that allowed the grapes to hang around until September. This produced an excellent quality. This wine was a winner and we enjoyed it immensely.

Winemaker's Notes:

The fragrance of berries, earth, pepper spice and leather waft from the glass letting you know that this wine is classic Syrah. Subtle notes of vanilla and powdered chocolate round out the aromas. Juicy flavors of blackberries and blueberries lead to a long finish of dusty coco powder. The Matchbook Syrah has a soft silky entry with broad rounded tannins. Full bodied and deep, this wine invites you to slow down and contemplate the complex layers of aromas and flavors.
