Matchbook Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Matchbook Cabernet has layered aromas of violets and cloves with dense blackberry, Bing cherry and cranberry. Bright cherry and chocolate, clove, mint and firm tannins are prominent on the entry. The lingering finish is a rich blend of cherry truffles, cedar and spice. This full-bodied red wine has loads of chewy chocolaty tannins, but with very elegant aromas of violets – a wonderfully impressive combination. Pair this wine with red meat like a pepper crusted seared rib eye.

I'm not a cabernet fan really, but this is pretty good. It's very full bodied with really rich fruit flavor to it, and a little bit of herb. great with heavy pasta dishes. it's not your typical cabernet in my opinion with a pretty fair price and an equally good flavor

A weighty Cab rich in black berries, but earthy with notes of leather and herbs brings a lot of complexity to the table. A balancing layer of cedar shavings demonstrate that this wine spent some time in oak. Tannins are softened, with just enough structure to demand a peppered steak alongside. A splash of Syrah add a sprinkleof white pepper sensation on the nose and palate. The Cabernet Sauvignon was selected from Lake County and the Russian River Valley. The The Syrah is from Russian River Valley and Dunnigan Hills. After fermentation the wine was aged 19 months in a combination new and neutral French and American oak. Crew wines was launched in 2005 by the same owenrs of RH Phillips Wines. They named this new project "Crew"because they kept most of the same staff.

Deeply layered aromas of dusty chocolate, red licorice, sassafras and bread pudding with cedar and vanilla with underlying aromas of pomegranate, black cherry and Santa Rosa plums. It is full-bodied with loads of juicy red fruit and barrel spice. Solid tannins, moderate acidity and a juicy richness mingle seamlessly.

94pts California State Fair - Winemaker Notes - Matchbook Cabernet has deeply layered aromas of dusty chocolate, red licorice, sassafras and bread pudding with cedar and vanilla with underlying aromas of pomegranate, black cherry and Santa Rosa plums. It is full-bodied with loads of juicy red fruit and barrel spice. Solid tannins, moderate acidity and a juicy richness mingle seamlessly. This big bold cabernet has the mouth-watering quality of a great aperitif wine served with a tangy-nutty cheese like Manchego or a tomato brochette. The wine will also pair nicely with spicy grilled sausages.

Rating: 84/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. A smaller scaled wine in most every measure, and one whose grasp on Cabernet is at best a little bit loose, this slender, slightly nervy, medium-bodied wine is a touch green at the margins, and it seems unlikely that it will show appreciable improvement over time.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
