Deep purple-colored. Has a fragrant nose of cedar, pencil lead, tobacco, spice box, and blackberry. On the palate it is dense; for a medium to full-bodied wine it has significant structure.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine made using 100% Tempranillo grapes from one of the finest plots in the Ribera: the south-facing Pago de San Román, where the soil is composed of layers of clay-laced sand and limestone. The vineyards, planted at a density of 971 vines/acre, are at an altitude of 2,789 ft. The wine is fermented at 78.8ºF during 10 to 14 days in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.

Tasting Notes:

The nose is cherry-rich and shows the dill and vanilla notes of American oak. The mouth is very full with lots of red and black cherries and some minty herbs. The middle and end of the wine are dry and tannic, and in the finish there is a lot of tart red fruit acidity too. The wine exhibits a need for a bit more bottle time to soften up, but expect more evolution from this wine soon.
