RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
Food Pairings for Matanzas Crk Merlot
Roasty nose with crushed stone, dark cocoa covered cherries, hints of funk (dissipate with swirling- newly opened) and currant. Really a striking shade of red in the glass. I expected a more dense palate than it delivers, but that's not bad. It's nicely structured with good balance of tannin and acid. Rich, fresh red berry fruit driven by red cherry and red currant. Pretty profile with some lavender suggestions on the finish. Some nice stony minerality as well. Finish is a tad shallow and tart. 87 pts. 3/27/13
External Reviews for Matanzas Crk Merlot
A classic, Matanzas Creek has produced outstanding Merlot form Bennet Valley in Sonoma for decades. A portion of the grapes for this 2006 are sourced from Jackson Park Vineyard which overlooks Matanzas Creek Winery from its location 930 feet above the valley floor. With its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Jackson Park is at the front line of the cooling effects of the Petaluma Wind Gap which brings marine winds and coastal fog into the valley. These conditions help to maintain the grapes' aromatic qualities, acidity and tannin structure. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 2006 90 points saying "Ripe and voluptuous, with very rich, long-lasting berry, cherry, mocha and spice flavors, liberally oaked and wrapped into fine, sturdy tannins. Lacks a bit of complexity, but otherwise a beautiful Merlot that trades on the variety’s opulently fleshy sensuality."
