Matanzas Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2006

Member Review by jescobio:

This was our pick for our New Years wine. It was just the wife and myself making a 5 course meal at home. I decanted it for a few hours. I tasted it straight out of the bottle and the tannins were crazy. Out of control like Mr. Toads wild ride. Stuck it in the decanter, ran off the sediment and let it sit for about 2 hours. After those two hours we sat down to our fillet and sweet potatoe. It had mellowed out dramatically. Tannins went down to a smooth and manageable level. There were lots of black fruit notes on the nose. I think this wine should have been enjoyed earlier. It didnt really stand up to time. After a while and on my second glass I could tell it was flat. Slowly but surely the excitment of a long awaited bottle deminished. Still very enjoyable but if I would have had it my way we should have enjoyed it a few years ago.

Tasting Notes:

Scents of dark red fruits and licorice greet your nose and continue onto the palate where black and white pepper are added to the mix. A long finish and sturdy, yet elegant tannins allow for early drinking and the ability to age for 8-10 years or more.
