Massican White Blend Napa Valley Gemina 2010
Editorial Reviews for Massican White Blend Napa Valley Gemina
With bright top notes of peach and mineral over a core of white orchard fruits this was a bit of a surprise to me. There were lovely honied and floral tones but the nose seemed to promise a Chardonnay heavy palate. While this was a bit loose on entry it offers a lovely sense of transparency and almost a hint of sweetness on the tongue. The mid-palate gains fine balance and cut with notes of succulent pear balanced by an almost quartzy edged minerality that drove through to the long and persistent finish. The surprise here was the lightness with which this floated across the palate. A really fine effort, and excellent blending of Viognier. 91pts
The nose was floral with honey, almond skins and green apple. On the palate, it showed a fuller body than the Annia with a similar acid profile. Flavors of nectarine and white fruits filled the senses and gained sweetness toward the back palate. The finish was fresh and mouthwatering, as the fruits turned to sour melon. This blend of chardonnay and ribolla gialla was very pleasing, right out of bottle, but really came to life with time in the glass.
After an extra year in my cellar this wine has really opened up. Right out of the bottle I found notes of ripe nectarine, white florals and almond paste with a mineral stone characteristic, which lingered in the background. On the palate, it was medium bodied with an expansive presence and brisk acidity keeping it fresh from start to finish. Ripe melon, lemony citrus and a bitter twang toward the close. The finish was simply fresh and fragrant on the palate, which was a perfect ending to this fine bottle of wine.
Floral with the slightest sweetness of honeysuckle, there's a bit of emollience, cream and vanilla bean. Good acidity and balance. Very clean and well made wine.
