Winemaker's Notes:

Deep crimson. The funny thing is that this wine smells first and foremost<br/>Tuscan rather than like the Bordeaux blend that it is. A good<br/>thing! Very savoury with real tang and I could swear there was some<br/>Sangiovese in here. Zings with life but there is no obvious sweetness at all<br/>(cf its stablemate Masseto). Great, glamorous life and<br/>concentration. The alcohol is very well hidden. Tannins are clearly<br/>there but are all but completely hidden by the ripe but savoury fruit. The<br/>overall balance is definitely helped by the defiantly high acidity. <br/>Delicious young wine that should age beautifully. <br/>(Jancis Robinson - jancisrobinson.com - 06-Dec-2009)

Drank at dinner in Tokyo, September 2009, with a Sardinian lamb and chestnut stew, and a cheese plate. The Masseto, which we had second after an excellent Chianti earlier in the meal, was my first experience with the wine. A truly, massively rich and deep merlot, with lots of oak showing. Tuscany does the Right Bank, in spades. Just in process of being released to market. Still has a greenish aspect. Wildflowers, licorice, cherries, hints of leather, rubber, earth and mint. Great balance, clarity, long finish but the oak needs more time to integrate. Very ripe, though with an acidity high enough to counterbalance. I have a lot more I could say about this eye-opening wine, and was most glad to make its acquaintance, but personally would prefer to drink it after it had considerably more age. When I buy some of it (after a careful search for the cheapest, most reliable vendor, since it is very pricey), I fully intend to discipline myself to let it lay for five, ten, fifteen years or more. A very different statement from the winery than their Ornellaia cab blend, which I've had several times before.

The nose shows black cherry, dark chocolate, undergrowth and dried herbs. On the palate, it was full bodied with sweet red and black fruits, backed by a firm structure with hints of spice and wood. The finish was long with sour cherry. This was a beautiful, seductive tuscan wine that was perfectly balanced and has the stuffing to stand the test of time.

Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia DOC 2006: Die Zeitschrift Wine Spectator bezeichnet ihn als bester Rotwein der Welt. Er stammt aus den ältesten Parzellen der Tenuta. Derart optimale Ergebnisse bringt der Cabernet weltweit bloß in zwei Regionen hervor, behaupten Thomas Duroux und Michel Rolland, beide Weinmacher auf Ornellaia. Zum ersten sei dies Bordeaux - dort stammen beide her. Die andere Topregion läge rund um Bolgheri. Mit seinem Verschnittwein Ornellaia machte sich das dortige Weingut international einen Namen.Dieser Wein ist von hoher Konzentration und Tiefe. Er zeigt dunkle Aromen, viel Spannung. Ein dunkles Bordeauxrot bestimmt seine Farbe. Der Wein passt sehr gut zu kräftigen Gerichten von Schwein und Rind, Braten in dunklen Soßen, gegrilltem Fleisch, Lamm und Wild und kräftigen Käsesorten. The 2006 Ornellaia flows from the glass in a profound expression of ripe, dark fruit. Dark in color, showing loads of dark fruits on the nose, as well as licorice and berries and hints of mint and cedar. Full-bodied, with refined yet chewy tannins and a ripe berry, coffee and chocolate aftertaste. New wood barrels shine through. But it will all come together with bottle age. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best after 2012.

Displays beautiful aromas of ripe fruit, with currant, plum and blackberry. This complex and full-bodied Tuscan red has soft, polished tannins and a long, long finish. Shows a deft hand in the winemaking. Best after 2012.

Deep ruby. The initially reticent nose begins with a hint of grass before revealing wonderfully complex notes of raspberry, red and black cherry, leather, tobacco and intriguing minerality. Much more explosive on the palate from the get-go, with deep, ripe red and black fruit flavors given extra lift and complexity by pretty coffee and dark chocolate highlights. The very long, nuanced finish features smooth tannins. A very successful Ornellaia.
