Food Pairings for Mascarello Bartolo Barbera d'Alba
Editorial Reviews for Mascarello Bartolo Barbera d'Alba
1 year in large wood A little tarry on the nose and rich with black fruit, black plums, earth, sweet medicinal notes and a little minty top note. On entry this is tight and focused with really deep fruit that tastes like old vines. A bit of alcohol intrudes early on the palate but the great acids kick in adding cut and definition leading to a long finish with attractive spice and dried floral accents. This would be great with a rare steak pick a fatty juicy cut like a skirt steak. 91pts
2010 was a cooler, more classically styled year and the Barbera reflects the growing season with an elegant, austere character that is completely unlike its brother, the exuberant 2009. The flavors and aromas of the 2010 show good black stone fruit with menthol and spices, with excellent acidity and a long, clean finish that ends with a mineral burst. Drink 2013-2017.
