Minty, geranium, tight, soil notes and huge sweet strawberry fruit come together on the nose. This is open if not terribly complex with very pretty hints of camphor. There's a lovely sweet edge to the crude, tight little tannins on the palate that persists through the delicate finish. The tannins are very ripe and fine grained here, and the fruit fresh and crisp for the vintage though a touch subtle today and perhaps lacking just a little detail and tension in the mouth but quite good for the vintage. 92pts
Gorgeous nose filled with small strawberry and lingonberry fruit topped with intense rose petal aromatics, a little almost cinnamon sweetness, a hint of hazelnut nutella and a nice dusting of talc. Bright and decisive on entry with soft tannins gently supporting almost sweet wild strawberry fruit. There are accent notes of rust, macerated flowers, and a hint of spice here all presented in a clear and tense style built upon lovely acidity. This exhibits length, purity and elegance, with such such clarity on the palate. It is a classic in the making. 94pts
A bit funky and dirty at first, then turning very floral with a slight gamey edge and roasted nuances to the sour fruit. With air this gains a wonderfully clear and precise rose petal tone and deep notes of mineral water. On the palate this is deceptively light and soft with sweet raspberry fruit up front balanced by ripe tannins and supporting acids. There’s a touch of chalky minerality on the mid-palate and some sweet anise and orange skin tones that resonate on the long, aromatic finish. You have to think about this a bit to really get it at this point but the balance and inner mouth perfume bode well for the future. 91pts
Woodsy on the nose with big soil tones, really hard smelling mineral water notes as well over lightly smoky fresh fruit. - Melon fruit up front in a slightly fleshy feeling wine with integrated acids and hard but not dry tannins. There is a nice core of round fruit on the mid-palate with spice and herb tones coming to the fore on the backend. The wine gains depth and volume with air and the tannins do become somewhat more prominent coming to dominate the moderately long finish. 92pts
Big dried fruits on the nose, dried raspberry, sandalwood, cardamom, incense, and tobacco, all freshly presented and very precise – Super bright and focused in the mouth with a core of vibrant raspberry, nettle, and rosehip tinged fruit. There is a nice touch of green peach on the backend acids and the finish closes up fairly quickly though there is a nice echo of that green tone again accenting the big pop of fruit on the final. This is starting to close down a bit but it shows exceptional balance. 94pts
Arugula, sandy and almost saline soil tones with a touch of camphor. In the mouth this is exceptionally vibrant with a spine of acidity that slices through the herbal and rainier cherry fruit that reveals edges of limestone and tarry tobacco. The fruit has brilliant purity and freshness and an elegance that is tough to match in Barolo. A great 2004. 2014-2030 94pts
Insecticide and chemical aromas on the nose which is all green and herbal. In the mouth this is soft and anonymous with tart acids and nothing of interest. 60pts
had this wine on multiple occasions; dont plan to taste again for years. With very rare exceptions, I found little pleasure in drinking any 99s. This bottle however was particularly harsh. intensely tannic. Found it to have a synthetic or petrol quality on the nose
The nose showed sweet dark cherries and roses with spice and licorice. On the palate it was balanced and feminine with ripe cherry and spices, all driven by juicy acidity that brightened up the palate and nearly masked its underlying structure. The finish was fresh and juicy with inner floral notes lingering throughout.
Classic and expresive nebbiolo nose: roses, mint, balsamic. Open 2 hours before drinking, splash decanted. On the palate, sweet red berries, tar, mushrooms. Prominent tannins, good concentration. Palate never equaled the amoras. will hold the rest of a few years. A very nice, well-priced wine. Happy to have more.
The nose shows cranberry sauce, wild berries and a bit of vanilla. Strawberry and tobacco on the palate but a bit drying. This bottle does show a good finish with brisk acidity which leads me to believe it simply needs more time to become more expressive on the palate.
One of the best wines all year. Picture perfect elegance. Simply haunting gorgeous aromatics. Focused intensity and vitality. Complex orange peel, menthol, tar, leather, brush.
Here we are on a different level with the most hedonistic wine of the night. The nose jumps with jammy lingonberries, loamy earthy, raspberries and sweet anise notes. This is absolutely mouth filling and so full of glycerin as well as polished, soft tannins that it caresses the mouth. There is actually alot of tannin here and strong balancing acidity but they are subsumed in the lush red fruits that are counterbalanced by mineral and meaty/savory elements to the wine. Not breathtakingly complex but so simply delicious I want to steal the bottle! The finish is long and shimmering as it comes in waves then recedes before returning in ever diminishing pulses. Fantastic. 95pts

Readers will have to be especially patient with the 2008 Barolo Monprivato a wine that has none of the early appeal of other recent vintages. Still very much closed in on itself the 2008 possesses serious depth power and structure but those elements are suppressed by the recent bottling. Dried rose petals crushed berries and mint are some of the nuances that flesh out on the powerful imposing finish. I don t think the 2008 will ever match the 2006 or 2007 but it is going to be fun seeing how close it gets. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2048. 94+ -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

The 2007 Barolo Monprivato is stunningly beautiful. Monprivato is seldom this rich when it is young. It is most often intensely aromatic, mid-weight and frequently out of balance, especially right after bottling. The 2007 is none of those things. It ... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. Mascarello’s 2006 Barolo Monprivato is incredibly primary at this stage. The 2006 is an explosive Monprivato endowed with layers of ripe red fruit backed up by firm, muscular tannins that speak with great eloquence. I expect the 2006 to go through a period of stubbornness — as it often does — but it should begin to show well at around age ten or so. From time to time, the wine shows glimpses of its nobility. The 2006 is shaping up to be a profound Monprivato. The only thing it needs is time. This is a fabulous effort from Mascarello. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2036.

An elegant style, with a hint of wild herbs giving way to strawberry, eucalyptus, licorice and mineral. Though structured, this is deftly balanced, with a mouthwatering finish and a fine, savory aftertaste. Best from 2013 through 2030.
The 2005 Barolo Monprivato is a very pretty, harmonious wine endowed with tons of purity in its fruit. All of the telltale aromas and flavors of Monprivato are there - geraniums, roses, spices and flowers - but backed up by quite a bit of heft and body as well. Today, the 2005 Monprivato is quite tannic, but it should come around with a few more years in bottle. In some ways, the 2005 reminds me of the 1999, another vintage in which the Ca d'Morissio was not produced. Monprivato is typically one of the hardest wines to accurately assess when young, and only time will tell what heights it ultimately reaches. For now, the future certainly seems bright. This is a mysterious, seductive Monprivato that will be fascinating to follow. Mascarello was especially selective with his Monprivato and only bottled about 50% of his production. He also blended in the juice kept separately for the Ca d'Morissio, which in this vintage is about 20% of the final blend as opposed ...
93-95 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): The 2009 Barolo Monprivato impresses for its sheer balance. Nothing really stands out, instead it is the wine's overall harmony that speaks most clearly. This is going to be a fascinating vintage of Monprivato to follow. What will emerge over time? Will it be the personality of the year, or the pedigree of these poor, white soils? Time will tell. Drink: 2019-2039. (May 2013)
