Mas Rodó Riesling 2009

Member Review by WinePleasures:

Unusual to get a Riesling from Spain and its's very different from a German Riesling. We had a german wine taster try this wine and he says that it wouldn't sell in Germany yet the winery is now exporting this wine to the German market. You can see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGKVXWUK5Pw Pale gold, bright and shiny. Quite complex on the nose due to its fermentation in barrel. Delicate perfumed bouquet and expressive. Intense, silky and elegant in the mouth. Well balanced acidity and long finish.

Now you've probably never heard of the Montonega grape variety? Here's a bit about the grape: "The Montonega grape variety is native from Alt Penedès region with Small implantation in the past because it offers low production. The grape growers prefer to plant Parellada, a variety genetically linked, but that is three times the production per plant in regard to Montonega. The Montonega variety has a pink color and a grain much smaller than the Parellada one, both provide a high concentration of sugars and a higher proportion of skin with respect to pulp while intensifying its color providing a structure and qualities that enable us to greater complexity in the wine. In a Château with the features of MAS RODO located at 500 mts. altitude allows postpone harvest to reach the peak of maturation, resulting in a structured white wine, aromatic and dry with an optimal level of acidity that gives it a whole personality and a strong differentiation." On the nose - just a sec my glass is empty..........Ok.Slightly menthol, citric fruits - lime, lemony....just had a pizza so taste buds a bit numb . hold on.......Palid yellow, fresh, fantastic acidity, balanced of course!. Short finish .. I think this is one for a Fideua, paella (done properly ie as in Spain, not the tourist stuff served with lemon), perfect match. Could go well with smoked Norwegian salmon and perhaps even sushi
