Mas des Dames Coteaux du Languedoc 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The charming Lidewij Kuijper is quickly gaining a reputation for this excellentCoteaux de Languedoc wine, its vines pleasingly located in the gentle hills ofMurveil les Béziers. The blend is Syrah (20%), Grenache (50%) andCarignan (30%), its fruit hand-picked and completely destemmed. The wine isrich yet pure and fruity with a velvety texture, and a beautiful ripeness.Black fruits are married to liquorice, with an elegant weave of tannins and aclean but persistent finish. Perfect with venison or roasts. (Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

Where the Languedoc is often a 'sea' of vineyards, in this hidden valley we where lucky to still find the ancient structure of small plots, surrounded by a natural flora. This 'garrigue' of oak, olive and pinetrees creates a natural balance in vineyards, enabling us to do without any insecticides and just minimal treatments against illnesses. We never used chemical fertilizers and do without any irrigation. Reason why the yields are low (about 35kl/ha), but of a nicely concentrated quality. A label for organic farming is pending.
