I had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Kacher in Florida when he was starting out in business. His portfolio of wines is indeed impressive! The Nimes region of France is in the southern Rhocirc;ne, which is well known for itrsquo;s fine production of Syrah and Grenache. It is unoaked, so the fruit in the wine really shows through. Upon tasting, you discover layers of blueberry and currant with structured tannins. As the wine opens up, it rounds out with flavors of plums and spice. This was the perfect complement to the ratatouille that I served it with!

From a purely hedonistic perspective, the 1998 Syrah/Grenache (a 50-50 blend) is an outstanding wine. Sexy and voluptously-textured, it is not complex enough to merit a 90-point score, but its exuberance, vigor, gorgeous purity, and copious quantities of black currant fruit are hard to ignore. Drink this fruit bomb over the next 2ndash;3 years.

The rsquo;96 Grenache/Syrah blend from this estate offers up a bounteous array of red and blackberry flavors along with more than a hint of Provenccedil;al herb and spice to lend an air or real French authenticity to this knockout red. Like all the wine of this estate, this is ready to go now, but has the stamina to improve for 5ndash;7 years.

The 2008 Tradition (red), a blend of equal parts Grenache and syrah all aged in tank, is spicy and peppery, with lots of Provencal herbs, medium body, and red and black fruits in a compact, straightforward, but ultimately seductive style. Again, drinking this wine in its first 1ndash;3 years of life is essential.

This blend of half grenache with syrah and cinsault is savory and smoky, with sweet-tart pomegranate flavors scented with rose and earth. For smoked pork chops.

Inviting, layered nose of raspberry, strawberry, molasses, smoke, black olive, licorice and gamey notes. Nicely complex and flavorful with lots of ripe berry fruit, leather, black pepper and roasted meat notes. Medium-to full-bodied with moderately firm tannins. Fresh, richly textured and dense without being heavy. Imported by Robert Kacher Imports.
