Mas de Daumas Gassac Vin de Pays de l'Hérault 2010
80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% rare grape varieties. A true aristocrat! 2010 is a splendid vintage, very full and rich, bursting with ripe fruit, with an excellent acidity that enlivens the noble, perfectly mature flavors. Classic Medoc vinification -- long fermentation and maceration (20 days at least) in stainless steel tank. No filtration. Barrel aged 12 to 15 months in used oak. Alcohol 13%.
Way back in 780 CE, Charlemagne’s advisor, Saint Benedict of Aniane, founded the first vineyard in the Gassac valley. Indeed, there are good reasons to believe that he introduced Charlemagne to some of the valley’s early wines. Thus, in common with most truly great wines, the Daumas Gassac Grands Crus were born under the aegis of a prestigious Abbey.
