Martini & Rossi Asti 2015

Member Review by Aegelis:

Cheerful bubbly with a sweet finish without overpower other flavours. Good with dinners, but probably best saved for after dinner as a light treat with fresh fruit. Although I'm not usually a fan of bubbles usually, I'd surely prefer this on the special occasions where I'm offered a flute more so any other champagne. More likely agreeable to most tastes rather than a dry or tart version.

Martini & Rossi is an iconic Italian brand of wine and vermouth, founded by Alessandro Martini and Luigi Rossi in the mid 1800s in Turin. In 1863, they produced their first vermouth, a blend of herbs and botanicals in fortified wine, which was met with instant success in the Piedmont cafes where it was introduced, during what became “aperitivo hour.” Eventually the brand expanded internationally and continued to grow throughout the 20th century. Of course, anyone who was around in the 1970s and 80s is familiar with the ubiquitous Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante ad campaigns, which introduced a worldwide audience to the slightly sweet style of Piedmontese sparkling wine. Their vermouths (available in rosso, blanco, rosato and extra dry) continue to be favorites as aperitifs and in cocktails, a go-to bartender favorite. In addition to the Asti Spumante style, they also produce dry Prosecco, sparkling rosé and a popular off dry Moscato.  Read less

Its very sweet and bubbly. I am not one for sweet wines, but I love this stuff. I actually prefer it over dry champagnes.

Creamy froth is short-lived but the peach and mineral notes come through clean and sharp followed by zest and soothing swetness in the mouth. One of Italyandrsquo;s most recognized brands presents its most famous sweet sparkler; thatandrsquo;s always a joy to revisit.

One of the largest and best producers of Asti, formerly known as Asti Spumante. The secret of buying good Asti is to buy it fresh (from a store with good turnover-since Asti is always nonvintage). Here you'll appreciate its sweet, delicate flavors of melon, peach, apple and grapefruit. Perfect with apple tarts and cream.

Light and fruity, this famous Italian sweet bubbly is produced by the giant Vermouth and sparkling wine firm Martini & Rossi. Made from aromatic Moscato Bianco grapes grown near the Piedmont town of Asti, it's perfect with fruit at the end of a meal.

This perennial favorite sparkles with tangerine peel, honeysuckle, vanilla, creamery butter and honeyed notes. Very clean and zesty. It drinks as sweet as it smells. Fortunately, the acidity is high and refreshing, the wine exceptionally clean and well-made. Fans of this style will absolutely love it, and there?s a lot to like.
