Nobody has reviewed this wine?? A great pinot from a great producer. big bold earthy, mushroomy notes in the nose with concentrated fruit flavors on the palate. dark cherry, cola, red berry, leather and forest floor. a great wine to crack open and gulp at a wine bar, but this wine screams for a rich duck or game hen dish with some sort of wine/balsamic/dark red fruit based reduction.
I have yet to be disappointed by a Martinelli wine and this is no exception. On open, the nose was earthy with dark plum and leather. After sitting for a few minutes, it opened to raspberry and spice. The palate was smooth with vibrant flavors of strawberry and ripe cherry. There was almost a bubblegum feel on the front. The finish was spicy and long. Ready to drink now, but let it open for a few minutes for a great experience.
A very good pinot that reminds me of a wet day in the Russian River. Earthy, with flavors of mushrooms and hints if moist leaves. Very concentrated berry flavors with a little dark cherry and red berry. I paired it with a Christmas roast duck in a cherry/port reductiion. Very memorable! Best to let it breath for an hour or two or hold it until late 2010.
