Martín Códax Tempranillo Rioja Ergo 2010
Martín Códax is a winery that was founded by a group of Spanish winemarkers in 1986. It is in the capital of the Salnés Valley, Cambados, in the Denomination of Origin "Rías Baixas" of Spain.
Sticky caramel and honey aromas with some papaya. Very light wine, not super fruity but with plenty of stone fruit - peach and apricot. Quick finish.
citrus, grapefruit, stonefruit with subtle acidity coursing throughout. easy drinking!
Juicy, lush nose of tropical and stone fruits. White peach, hint of lime, apricot and white flowers. Slightest grassy tone as well. The palate is shockingly unrelated, full of mineral tones. Unexpected given al the lush fruit on the nose. Very salinic and sharp on the palate. Very tight acid. It's inconsistent, so loses points for me. Slightly green asparagus finish.
This Martín Códax Albariño is a very pale gold color that sparkles a little in the light. On the nose it is sharp and clean with strong aromas of citrus and hints of fresh cut grass. At first taste it has a fantastic abundance of tastes from green grapes, granny smith apples, tropical fruits and cantaloupe. It effervesces a little on the tongue and ends with a fresh tingly finish, which I liked a lot. A do like clean fresh wines and this one is exactly that. A wonderful scrumptiously fun summer wine that pairs perfectly with spicy Mexican food. This is a super fun wine to bring to a summer garden party.

The Martin Codax label is now under the Gallo umbrella and produced in large quantities. The 2009 vintage was outstanding in Rias Baixas so the 2009 Martin Codax Albarintilde;o has a bit more depth and concentration than has been the standard recently. It was aged sur lie for 4 months and displays a pleasant nose of spring flowers and lemon zest. Crisp on the palate with good balance and moderate length, it will drink nicely for another 1ndash;2 years.
Starts out with gentle matchstick aromas, but with time itrsquo;s all about white fruits, green herbs and apple. The palate has a firm, standard, high-quality mouthfeel along with tart apple, white peach and pineapple flavors. The finish is pure lime and snap, while the refreshment quotient runs long and strong.
A little leesy on the nose, but mostly itandrsquo;s forward and lemony. The palate is critic and crisp as a whistle, with lemon green apple and a secondary sweetness akin to pineapple. Focused and clean on the finish; chiseled and defined.
The middle of this wine is pale and dry, with a cool mineral rush that seems to soak up the soil into the glass. Those mineral flavors last, while the fruit itself has more of a candied tone, like marzipan and strawberries. Itrsquo;s quirky and distinctly albarintilde;o. For gambas al ajillo.
A refreshing food friendly white wine, Albariño is crisp, elegant and dry and has aromas and flavors of pear, passion fruit and apple with bright acidity. - Winery
From the Rias Baixas region of Spain, this Albarintilde;o is dedicated to Martin Codax, a 13th century Galacian troubadour whose music celebrated love and wine. Aromatic, crisp and dry in style, accented with a floral bouquet and a clean refreshing lemony acidity that will marry well with your favorite seafood dish. And by the way, Parker rated it 90 points.
The more serious, richer, more mineral and complex 1997 Martin Codax is made from 100% Albarintilde;o, but it is longer in the mouth, with mineral, apricot, peach, and floral scents. This wine is elegant and rich, as well as beautifully precise and nicely textured.
Food Pairings for Martín Códax Tempranillo Rioja Ergo
Códax always manages to combine the best of Albariño: its peachy notes, as ripe as apricots, and its sweet citrus character. The wine's fresh and fruity style doesn’t lack for mineral and stone; it’s just overwhelmed by tangy fruit. The finish lingers with refreshing tartness. Drink now or in the next few years.
