Martín Códax Mencía Bierzo Cuatro Pasos 2007
An excellent co-operative established in 1968 with over 550 members. These members have 420 hectares of vineyard. Martín Códax wine pays homage to the troubadour of the same name who lived in this region in the 13th century. It is said that he was born and lived in Galicia. The Mencía grapes are grown in their Bierzo vineyards, while the Albariño grapes come from their Rias Biaxas. This wine has a morello cherry red colour with violet tints. On the nose it is of medium-high intensity with dominant varietal aromas of red fruits and a touch of oak. It is well structured with firm but rounded tannins which make it elegant and balanced on the palate. The finish is full of vibrant varietal fruit. 90 points Robert Parker.
Good value wine. Nice balance with good fruit notes. Definitely a medium to light body wine. Good alone and with some seasoned chicken. Good smooth finish with hints of spices. Nice to have around for guests and just for something to have just because
Crisp, acidic, wonderful compliment to a seafood paella.
The wine was a nice, medium yellow and very aromatic. After swirling the wine, I only had to put my nose near the glass to pick up the nice lime and green apple aromas. On a second check, I also found ripe melon and stone fruits. In the mouth, the Martin Codax tasted of lime, blossoms, and peach, mixed with the slightest bit of honey. The wine was crisp and refreshing without being too acidic. For my complete review, visit my blog at http://bit.ly/17rUSb

Spain's aromatic white Albariño grape flourishes in the northwestern province of Galicia, and nowhere are the results as impressive as in the Rías Baixas region. Delightfully crisp, vibrant, and floral, this seafood-friendly wine has lively fruit character with a flinty, minerally edge.
Martin Códax has created this easy-drinking, fruit forward wine from Rioja. Made from 100% Tempranillo, this wine is the perfect match from everything from summer pasta salads to burgers.
Codax really got it good in 2007. This is one of this co-ops best-balanced, easy-to-like bottlings we can remember. The bouquet is clean as a whistle, with pear, apple and slate. Graceful on the palate, with citrus and green-apple flavors. A little lime carves shape into the long finish.
Martin Codax is well known in Spain for its quality albariño white wines produced in the Rias Baixas region of northwest Spain, but also has a winery in La Rioja This value-packed red is teeming with new world fruit notes and spice, along with more traditional wood influence and lots of food friendly tannins
