Marquis Philips Shiraz Mclaren Vale Integrity 2006
Wine Advocate # 173 Oct 2007 Jay Miller (92-95) Drink 2010 - 2022 The 2006 Shiraz 9 was tasted from a barrel sample. It has been barrel-fermented in new French and American oak barriques and hogsheads where it has been aging for 14 months (with another 2 months to go prior to bottling). It delivers an alluring bouquet of pain grille, smoke, mocha, espresso, and blue fruits. This is followed by a full-bodied, personality-filled Shiraz with blueberry, blackberry liqueur, licorice, and a hint of chocolate emerging on the palate. Opulent, sweet, and lengthy, it will evolve for several years but can be enjoyed now and over the next 12-15 years. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland.
Very dark color, with concentrated fruit and spice flavors. Complex and nicely balanced. This is a lot of wine for the money.
I did not like this much, although it does have a 92 WA rating. First of all, it had a nose of sour cherries, petroleum, and reminded me of the cheap in-flight tiny bottles of wine. I thought it had a rusty taste to it with some bitter aftertones. It did get better at day 3. However, I can think of other 'go to' wines at this price point that I'd enjoy drinking more - Chakana, Red Diamond, Thorne Clark, to name a few.
Dark, ripe, hot fruit nose. Blackberries on the palate -- very rich mouthfeel with rough tannins but a short finish. Try with grilled meats -- it's a hearty wine.
too extracted and takes too long to open up.
Decanted 1 hour. This is a big wine! Loads of blue and black fruit, both on the nose and mid-palate. Very jammy, with pepper and mocha flavors. Quite enjoyable, would buy again.
This is a very good Shiraz to have on hand and made by an excellent winery!
Deep, dark color. Full, spicy fruit. I liked this very much!

A notable value, the 2008 Marquis Philips Shiraz displays a slightly charred top note from its stay in American oak, but also a pleasant mix of boysenberry, coffee and vanilla flavors. Itrsquo;s creamy and supple, with a soft, mocha-tinged finish. Drink nowndash;2012.
Lithe, polished and appealing for its plum and berry flavors, lingering gently on the generous finish behind a veil of creamy oak. Drink now.
Ripe, dense and juicy; a real mouthful of dark berry, cherry, dusky spice and sweet oak flavors, mingling harmoniously on the lively finish. Best from 2005 through 2010.
Full, round and mouthfilling, with cherry and cooked plum flavors, finishing with touches of chocolate and toast. Drink it while itrsquo;s still fresh. Drink now.
Spicy, generous, a bit rustic in style but nicely fleshed out, with olive-scented cherry and tar flavors that linger on the slightly hot finish. Drink now through 2008.
Medium ruby. Roasted plum, blackberry, kirsch and fruitcake on the big, rich nose. full and broad on the palate, with sweet berry flavors and notes of dates, dried cherry and mocha. The clinging finish shows a sweet, spicy, slightly peppery cherry character.
The 2006 Shiraz was barrel-fermented and aged in predominantly American oak for 12 months. It offers up fragrant aromas of cedar, smoke, tar, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, opulent, and structured, this intense, well-balanced Shiraz will evolve for 2ndash;3 years and drink well through 2016. It is an excellent value.
