The 2008 Shiraz offers up aromas of cigar box, damp earth, smoked meat, bacon, and blueberry. Packed with flavor on the palate, it is full-bodied, round, and altogether pleasure-bent. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
Full, round and mouthfilling, with cherry and cooked plum flavors, finishing with touches of chocolate and toast. Drink it while it's still fresh. Drink now.
Lithe, polished and appealing for its plum and berry flavors, lingering gently on the generous finish behind a veil of creamy oak. Drink now.
This vintner consistently produces wines of prodigious results, and their Shiraz is no exception. Ripe aromas of blackberry and blueberry practically leap out of the glass, developing in intensity on the palate — balanced and hinting at smoke. The finish is drawn out to an impressive degree with a whisper of spice. An outstanding value; you’ll be the hit of the party when you bring the Marquis.
A collaboration of American and Australian winemakers, this unctuous effort is a classic example of a new world Shiraz. Don't be put off if the nose is slightly vegetal to start. All you need are a couple of swirls in your glass and the bright red fruits of raspberry and cranberry come through. The palate is dominated by blueberry and pepper. The tannins are very present but sweet, accompanied by glycerin and balanced with a fair amount of acidity, which helps carry the long finish. Although the term is overused by some wine critics, I would call this a hedonistic fruit bomb to be enjoyed with friends or given as an impressive gift to the host.
Cut from the same mold as the Sarah's Blend, the inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 Shiraz offers up sweet, rich aromas of blackberries, toasty wood, licorice, and a touch of pepper. This dense, opulent, fleshy, full, rich, mouthfilling, concentrated Shiraz should drink well for 3-4 years.
