I thought this was a great summer wine. Light, but enough flavor to stand on its own. Read more

In the annals of wine, there is nothing more misunderstood than dry Riesling. Many people mistakenly believe that all Rieslings are sweet (and that sweetness is necessarily a bad thing, but we'll have to dispel that myth another time!), and therefore restrict themselves from discovering gems such as the Marquis Philips Roogle. Perfumed with white flowers, wet slate, apricot and citrus fruits, the nose is reminiscent of some of the great Alsatian dry Rieslings. Because of its youth, the palate still has a lot of citrus up front: bright orange, lemon and especially pineapple, balanced by the great acidity that is the hallmark of food-friendliness and age-worthiness. This wine pairs especially well with creamy cheeses, but I also like it with sushi, pork sausage or grilled chicken salads.

The 2007 Roogle Riesling is light straw-colored with a lovely perfume of mineral, spring flowers, and honeysuckle with a hint of tropical fruits in the background. Just off-dry (10 grams residual sugar), round, and intensely flavored, this is very sexy Riesling at a great price. Could this be the booty-call wine of the year?

An easy going and quaffable Riesling that offers stone fruit notes on the nose and clean balance on the palate.
