McLaren Vale, AustraliaMarquis Philips Sarah's Blend has just been released in the 2008 vintage, and this one is once again a winner! Robert Parker calls the 2008 vintage the finest collection of Marquis Philips wines produced since the inception of the label in 2000. Jay Miller for Wine Advocate rated this big red wine gem 91 points, making it an incredible value. Chris Ringland is the winemaker. Don't miss it!Marquis Philips Sarah's Blend is one of the hot new wines from Down Under in the Grateful Palate portfolio, a collaboration among several leading Australian winemakers and American importer Dan Philips. Robert Parker honored Dan Philips as one of his Wine Personalities of the Year in 2006, saying "no one has done more to bring the great treasures of South Australia...to the American public."Marquis Philips Sarah's Blend is a bold blend of 63% Shiraz, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot and Cab Franc. It is deep ruby/purple in color with full body, moderate acidity and soft, ripe tannins. This complex red offers a rich palate of blackberry, black currant, plum, fig, espresso and spice. Aged in French and American oak, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now and over the next 6-7 years. Rich flavors linger on the long, smooth finish.Enjoy Marquis Philips Sarah's Blend with BBQ ribs, steak, burgers, pastas, grilled chicken and cheeses.
Winemaker's Notes:
Opaque red-black color with scarlet rim. Plums, prunes, milk chocolate, and bitumen aromas. Dark plum jam on the palate with freshly baked chocolate cake. Rich, mouth-filling, slightly chewy tannins. With air contact time, black forest chocolate cake becomes more evident on the aroma.
