Editorial Reviews for Marqués de Riscal Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva
Sweet and earthy on the nose with notes of sauteed eggplant, roasted dark fruits and maderized tones in balance. Full and rich in the mouth with lots of dull fruit that is slightly roasted and chunky with a bit of a roasted beet root tone and a medicinal edge. The fruit gains a bit of focus with a nice cherry pie filling tone and a bit of apricot glaze but remains a bit rough around the edges and on to the moderate long finish. 89pts
User Reviews for Marqués de Riscal Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva
Add your reviewAn excellent classically styled rioja, with beautiful balance and acidity paired with nice black and red fruit. The oak is well integrated. This producer keeps a high level across the board, from "cheap" to super premium and are a good bet if you want to try the different styles of Rioja.
Enjoyed this on 12 Feb, 2012 with Peking duck that was great. Magnum bottle (1.5l). In cellar since 6/2010. First some acids on the nose, combined with cherries, oaky wood and some vanilla character. Surprisingly light and well balanced with only light vanilla on the palate, but more red berries and mild oak. However, clearly less of all than on the nose. Light to medium and less power than expected. Difficult to assess what further years of cellaring could do to it. Drinks well already now through 2014. I did expect a bit more, so sligthly disappointed, but elegance and quality is very good.
This Rioja Reserva is medium bodied with smooth tannins and a lovely woody taste. The finish is good, the taste is excellent. Using a real world scenario - If my brother brought a bottle of this over the next time he visits you’d see a decent sized grin on my face. Very nice wine.
every bit as good as the aclaimed 2004, if this gets better as suggested by the experts it will be the bargain of the year.
musty earth-like characteristics on the nose combined with sour cherry fruit intertwined with subtle black tea leaves

This rioja is dark cherry colour with good depth. With balsamic aromas and hints of ripe fruit, complexity and spice, the palate is fresh and light, with soft, rounded tannins. The finish proves persistent with some reminders of toasted oak. Its passage through the mouth is pleasant and elegant, fresh and easy to drink. This wine makes a good pairing with fish, shellfish, ham, pasta, chicken and cold meat.
Cherry-red color with good robe. Spicy, balsamic aromas of great complexity, with notes of ripe dark berries and light toasted nuances. On the palate it is full and tasty, with good structure and rounded, elegant tannins. The finish is long and fresh, with a slight reminder of the fine oak.
This wine is the epitome of traditional Rioja Reserva. It opens with aromas of citrus peel, tobacco, earth, cherry, smoke and rubber. Fresh and medium in body, it has oak-based flavors of vanilla and spice on top of reedy red fruit. Oak persists on t... Wine Enthusiast. A Tempranillo wine from Rioja in Spain.

Marques de Riscal is one of Rioja’s legendary estates. In 1858 Herederos de Marqués de Riscal became the first winery in the Rioja to produce wines following the Bordeaux method of slow fermentation and careful blending. A classic Rioja wine, the Marqués de Riscal Reserva is 90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and Mazuelo from vines more than 15 years old. A hand selection and triage is done as the grapes come in to the winery and only the best grapes of the vintage are selected for use in the Reserva. After slow, temperature controlled fermentation that brings deep color and extract, the wine spends approximately two years in American oak barrels, creating a fine structure and added complexity. The International Wine Cellar said "Deep red. Pungent aromas of redcurrant, cherry, tobacco and vanilla, with an herbal overtone. Round and silky in texture, offering modestly concentrated red fruit flavors that pick up a smoky nuance with air. Finishes with gentle sweetness and soft tannins, leaving a smoky, meaty note behind."
