This is one of the finest wines I've ever tasted -- what a steal for below $40! Purple color, black cherry, blackberry, woody, a bit of campfire and fresh moss. It definitely aged brilliantly, the tannins completely fell to the background and what was left was perfectly balanced and very complicated.

The reserva wines of Marqués de Riscal are made basically from grapes coming from vines over 15 years old, of the Tempranillo variety. This is a variety that ages well in wood, producing wines with a good tannic structure, colour and acidity.

Dry and nicely oaked, with hints of fine aged cheese, campfire, dried fruits and leather.
