Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet and earthy on the nose with notes of sauteed eggplant, roasted dark fruits and maderized tones in balance. Full and rich in the mouth with lots of dull fruit that is slightly roasted and chunky with a bit of a roasted beet root tone and a medicinal edge. The fruit gains a bit of focus with a nice cherry pie filling tone and a bit of apricot glaze but remains a bit rough around the edges and on to the moderate long finish. 89pts

Pale yellow with a slight greenish hue, this light bodied wine smells like asian pear, honeydew, and clover honey. Tastes of the same with some raw pineapple/sweet ruby grapefruit notes. Light bodied with lots of mouth watering acid - a very bright and crisp wine. Medium to long in length. I like this one, but don't love it because I would like to taste more complexity in addition to the acid.

This white wine from the verdejo grape was a pleasant new encounter. It is an excellent, light fresh summer wine - a treat with shellfish or fish with a light sauce. Or just on its own as an aperitif. Herbaceous green notes on a citrus base. Priced around the equivalent of 12-13 USD in Europe. Serve well chilled.

Wonderful wine for the price, especially from this well known Spanish establishment. More fruit forward that I was expecting. Also jammy with red fruits and a hint of bitter spice. Little bit of heat to it that slowly calms as it breaths. Not one to hold on to, Drink now!

Expansive fruity aroma, pale yellow colour with subtle greenish highlights and on the palate, initial sensation of smooth acidity which turns to caramel under the tongue.

Complex aromas with abundant lime, grapefruit, passion fruit and melon fruit, green grass and an underlying minerality that adds personality. At Marques de Riscal, balancing respect for the past with the demands of the present and an eye for the future is never an easy task - but it helps if your family has been engaged in it for more than 150 years. There s continuity at Riscal, with constant family ownership, and the current Marques, Paco Hurtado, is in charge of operations, while his son Luis is winemaker.Grapes: 100% Sauvignon BlancRegion: Spain / RuedaMaker: Luis HurtadoNotes: Pale yellow in colour with hints of green.

Plump and juicy with slightly candied red cherry fruit to go along with a touch of licorice on the plush finish. All silky, soft and easy to quaff. An impressive new wine from an impressive old winery.93% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 2% Manzuelo from Rioja.

Classic verdejo aromas with medium intensity and hints of fennel, herbs, white blossom, pear and peach. At Marques de Riscal, balancing respect for the past with the demands of the present and an eye for the future is never an easy task - but it helps if your family has been engaged in it for more than 150 years. There s continuity at Riscal, with constant family ownership, and the current Marques, Paco Hurtado, is in charge of operations, while his son Luis is winemaker.Grapes: 100% VerdejoRegion: Spain / Rueda / Finca MonticoMaker: Luis HurtadoNotes: Greenish-yellow colour. The nose has a marked Verdejo varietal aroma with medium intensity and hints of fennel, herbs, white blossom, pear and peach. It has a fresh, unctuous, very smooth mouth-feel, with a long, round finish. Its good acidity together with a period of ageing on its finest lees helps to keep its fresh taste longer and preserves all its aromatic complexity. This wine does not aim to impress with a powerful nose, but rather reveals a more elegant, complex varietal character.Serve: At 8-10c with fish, shellfish, white meat, ham, pasta, chicken and cold cuts.ABV: 13.5%

The bouquet is alive with a mlange of floral, herbal and fruity scents - freshly cut tarragon, white lilly and mango. This fullness carries through on the palate; the wine is surprisingly rich with ripe fruit flavors balanced by a pleasing citrus acidity on the finish that cries out for food.
