Marqués de Riscal, the oldest Rioja house, has for many years been a leading and pioneering company in the wine producing sector. As far back as 1858, it became the first winery in Rioja to produce wines following the Bordeaux method, and in 1972 it was the first winery to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin, where it produced its famous Marqués de Riscal white wines. Marqués de Riscal sells its products in 80 countries and its wines enjoy the highest international distinctions as well as numerous awards and mentions in the media. 1858 saw the birth of a dream. Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal began to take its first steps. Throughout its history, the bodega has always been a pioneering, innovative company that the inegrowing sector has looked to for a lead. In 2008, Marqués de Riscal celebrates its 150th anniversary by remaining faithful to its spirit of innovation and producing a special wine to commemorate such an important ilestone: Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario (Gran Reserva 2001). This 'Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario' is a dark-cherry coloured wine with brick red hues. Its aroma is complex and balsamic, with burnt wood and hints of spices such as black pepper and cinnamon. It has an oily mouth-feel, with good backbone and concentration of tannins, round and supple with a long, silky finish. This wine pairs well with ham,mature cheeses, red meat, all kinds of roasts and grills and game casseroles.
