The purple-colored 2007 Syrah Marques de Casa Concha delivers notes of cedar, tobacco, espresso, smoke, and blueberry. Firm and structured on the palate, pepper and mineral elements make an appearance along with a hint of black licorice. This solid effort will drink well from 2011 to 2019.

Concha y Toro's Syrah offerings begin with the 2006 Syrah Marques de Casa Concha. Medium purple-colored, the nose exhibits plum, blueberry, and black cherry aromas leading to an uncomplicated but ripe and flavorful wine for drinking over the next several years.

Thick, minty and extracted, with charcoal darkness. A forward wine that steps on the gas pedal with cola, black cherry and licorice flavors. More dark flavors and licorice notes settle on the finish, which has good feel but not much variety. In fact, that's the only complaint with this Syrah: it lacks complexity.

Dark and plush, with espresso, fig paste and plum sauce notes pushed by mocha and dark licorice on the finish. The rich, smoky finish shows fine-grained tannins and the density for moderate cellaring. Drink now through 2009.

The 2005 Syrah "Marques de Casa Concha" was aged for 16 months in French oak. It offers up smoke, leather, game, and blueberry scents which are followed by a supple-textured, ripe, layered wine with abundant spicy flavors. This nicely balanced wine will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2027.

Perfectly open and huge, with deep plum and black fruit smothering both the bouquet and palate. Over the past couple of years this wine has distinguished itself as a bruiser with charm. And while it may show very little in common with Rhône-style Syrah, for a Chilean version it rocks. Look for huge berry flavors and excellent balancing acids and tannins.
