Marques de Caceres Gaudium 2005
The name of this wine. Marques de Caceres was lent by D. Vicente Noguera y Espinosa de los Monteros. Today, he has been succeeded by his son D. Juan Noguera Merle, a worthy representative of the Marquisate which was granted in the XVIII century to his ancestor Juan Ambrosio Garcia de Caceres y Montemayor, a Captain of the Royal Armada for war merits.
Enjoyed this on Sunday 18 January, 2015. Has been in my cellar since April 2002, when bought on a business trip at the airport in Singapore. Still dark ruby in color, but slightly pale on the edges. Also still pretty intense, with a fruity and berry bouquet with cherry, plum and even blueberry and raspberry. The touch of oak and vanilla has become subdued and light. After 20+ years it is balanced, very smooth but still retains structure and is delicious in the mouth with soft tannins and a pleasant fullness. This wine has certainly aged well, even superbly and is a great example of high class and what the best Rioja from best years can become. A great experience.
