Marques de Burgos Tinto Roble Ribera del Duero 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Rioja's Bodegas LAN’s motivation to expand into other regions in Spain resulted in the Marqués de Burgos project in Ribera de Duero. After a very thorough search in the appellation, the Marques of Burgos selected the village of Quintana del Pidio while on a hot-air balloon flight. He was impressed by the beauty of the vineyards along the Duero River, which has an extraordinary altitude that permits the production of wines of great character. These ancient vines produce very low yields of grapes, giving rise to wines with big concentration, intense colour and smooth tannins. This Tempranillo is a great example, with ample fruitiness, notes of elegant ageing, and a velvety texture. . This 2013 Roble is produced from 100% Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) and is aged for 5 months in American and French oak, before a further 10 months in bottle. This has a deep cherry colour with purple tints. The lush palate has flavours of ripe wild berries, liquorice, coffee and vanilla, with notes of violets and savoury oak. A velvety, fleshy wine with a long fine finish. Try with casseroles and cured cheeses such as Manchego. Enjoy now and over the next few years.
