A Riesling wine from Mosel Saar Ruwer in Germany. 2001 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese (2 star) 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

The Molitor family have been making wine at their estate for 8 generations. The home of the winery lies situated above the Moselle in the middle of the Wehlener Klosterberg vineyard, with a view over to the vineyards of Zeltingen. With over 34 hectares of well-sited vineyard, Markus is one of the middle Mosels most important growers. Markus Molitor's vision has been to help restore the wines of the Mosel valley to their former glory, with unmistakeable Riesling wines true to their individual vineyard identity (terroir) and of extreme longevity. Markus Molitor excels at weaving together that incredibly tense and vibrant mix of minerality, acidity, sweetness and ripeness, and has produced a selection of almost sixty wines from numerous vineyards, every possible Pradikat level. At the heart of the Markus Molitor vineyards, Wehlener Klosterberg stretches up the steep slopes to the left and right of the winery. Stony, iron-rich soils of decomposed slate produce minerally and long-lived wines with delicate, elegant fruit. As a result this Reisling offers ripe peach and honeysuckle notes on the nose, and a comlex palate with mineral notes, and balancing acidity. True to the Markus Molitor style this rich, ripe wine also has great length, and pairs well with salads and fish dishes though is also surprisingly good with smoked and cured foods- rich creamy sauces or cheesy pasta dishes- especially with bacon or gammon.
