Mark West Pinot Grigio Appellation California 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

2016 HARVEST: The 2016 growing season started off with some welcomed winter rains. A fairly early bud break was followed by warm spring temperatures and a mild summer. The grapes ripened steadily and uniformly, resulting in fruit with great concentration, a balance of acidity and sugar, and optimal flavor development. VITICULTURE: The fruit for our Pinot Grigio was sourced from the finest vineyard locations throughout the California region. Winemakers selected areas that enjoy warm days and cool nights, conditions that produce lively grapes with bright, ripe fruit flavors and crisp acidity. The 2016 Pinot Grigio is a culmination of a variety of exceptional expressions from across California’s finest regions. WINEMAKING: The grapes were harvested at night and through the early morning hours. The wine was aged in 100% stainless steel to maintain the naturally occurring bright, crisp flavors. A rigorous blending process followed, combining the best attributes from each region before we bottled it. WINEMAKER NOTES: Our 2016 vintage hits all the right notes—light straw in color, this medium-bodied wine features aromas of honeydew, stone fruit, and citrus, especially lime. The body shows crisp acidity, bright fruit flavors, an easy entry, and a subtle, clean, lingering finish. This wine is wonderful on its own or paired with fish and chips, summer salads, and steamed clams by the dozen. AGING: 100% Stainless Steel TA: 6.2g/L pH: 3.33 RS: 3.0

2015 HARVEST: The 2015 growing season was simply incredible. A mild winter was followed by a cool spring, resulting in smaller, more concentrated grape clusters and a lighter crop. The summer progressed with ideal conditions. Harvest was remarkably smooth, without any major frost events or heat spikes. Across the board, the fruit showed great balance of acidity and sugar, and optimal flavor development. The resulting wines are superb, showing great depth, complexity, varietal intensity, and balance.
