Marisa Cuomo Furore Rosato Costa d'Amalfi 2016

Winemaker's Notes:

WHWC Staff Notes: A cult favorite of WHWC customers, this blend of 50% Piedirosso and 50% Aglianico is once again a stunner. Bright aromas of red plum, cherry, and pomegranate meld around a slightly herbal underside, while the palate displays a fine tannic grip to accentuate the wine's mineral backbone, which stands as ample indication of its seaside origins. It's truly a wine of place, and it will actually perform its best with after a little time in the cellar. Among a solid group of rather serious Italian Rosatos in 2016, Marisa Cuomo's Furore is a standout -Matt Bayless, 7/16/17

Situated in the Campanian province of Salerno, Costa d’Amalfi operates three DOC subzones—Furore, Ravello, and Tramonti. Marisa Cuomo and her husband, winemaker Andrea Ferraioli, produce six wines dedicated to local varietals. Cuomo is particularly esteemed for her work with Falanghina, a fairly mild grape that realizes a more demonstrative expression in the Amalfi zone, delivering floral and citrus flavors. Falanghina serves as the primary constituent of Cuomo’s Ravello bottling, which is widely regarded as one of the highest quality expressions of the grape. Both the Ravello and Furore also feature Biancolella, Falanghina’s frequent partner in the region’s white blends. Fior d’Uva, the third white, is comprised of local whites Fenile and Ginestra. All three of Cuomo’s reds blend Piedirosso—a local red that delivers berry fruits and a slight cinnamon accent—and Aglianico. Read less
