12/16/2011 - PATRICKM04 WROTE: 89 Points Gave as a gift and my roommate opened at dinner. Originally bought for the label, but was surprised. The wine looks Garnet colored. It smells like Blackberry, Red Currant, Black currant (cassis), and Light toast. It tastes like and Red Currant. The body is Medium. The wine is textured Juicy. The wine finishes Short. Marilyn Wines:
Marilyn Wines traces its origins to 1981, when a small group of friends started making wine at their home near St. Helena, in Napa Valley. Marilyn Wines traces its origins to 1981, when a small group of friends started making wine at their home near St. Helena, in Napa Valley. One evening in 1983, over dinner and a bottle of homemade Merlot, the concept of "Marilyn Merlot" was born. The wine enjoyed a good deal of popularity around the valley and was often donated to charity auctions and given as Christmas gifts. In 1985, the playful idea and the fine wine that bore its name led to the limited production of Marilyn Merlot for sale to the public. Over the years, continuing acclaim from critics, collectors, and lovers of fine wine have led to the production of Marilyn Cabernet, Norma Jeane wines, the Velvet Collection wines, and our eighteenth vintage of Marilyn Merlot. Marilyn Wines holds an exclusive agreement with the estate of Marilyn Monroe for the use of the name and the images. The royalties paid are distributed according to Marilyn's will to Anna Strasberg who helps support the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and to the Anna Freud Foundation in London, which has set up a special child treatment center called the Monroe Young Family Center. Interesting wine. Lacks complexity and depth of older, bigger merlots, but that's the point. It's young and vibrant, with flavors of unripe mango and cherry, but lacks the body and tannins of more mature merlots. Needs to air out for a few hours to really show what it can do.

Winemaker Notes: The 2015 Marilyn Merlot is a rich ruby wine with purple hues that immediately catch ones eye as it is poured in the glass. The aromas exhibit good intensity with a complexity of cassis, blueberries and hints of spice and earthy characters. This Merlot elegantly glides over the palate with a solid medium plus body, excellent, well balanced structure with well integrated tannins. The flavors mimic the aromas with added nuances of tart cherries, vanilla and a bright lingering finish. Very enjoyable now but will age well for 4-7 years. The Vineyards: The backbone of this wine is from grapes from Andy Beckstoer’s Missouri Hopper vineyard with a supporting cast of vineyard sources in Napa Valley including Merlot from both the Rutherford and Howell Mountain appellations. The Vintage: One of the better years in the last 10. No rain from late spring until well after we were fifinished picking, hence no need to pick early for fear of rain or to let hang for avor as both sugar and maturity were reached easily. Moderate temperatures throughout with only a few heat spikes during the growing season. Pairing: Well made Merlots pair well with many foods, from hamburgers to pizza, almost any meal is better with Merlot. Photograph: Milton photographed Marilyn at his New York studio on March 28, 1955, for LOOK magazine. The shoot included Marilyn glowing in her black robe snuggling with a Pekinese dog. pH: 3.52 Acid: 6.25 g/L Alcohol: 14.1%

Deep rich, youthful, purple hues are evidenced in the glass with aromas that have pleasing intensity. Hints of cassis, raspberry, spice, and rhubarb are well integrated in the nose. From entry to finish this wine has an even, alluring presence on the palate with a nicely balanced medium body. The flavors follow the aromas with added nuances of red currants and oak nicely integrated with the vinous fruit and a moderately lingering finish augmented by a touch of chili pepper. - Winery

Aromas of toasted oak and a more complex mouth feel from the new oak tannins. The fruit flavors are soft and mature. The additional flavors and structure that Cabernet gives to the predominately Merlot-based wine adds both character and aging ability.
