Marietta Cellars Zinfandel Sonoma County 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes A classic example of the Marietta winemaking style. Ripe jammyness, complimented by balanced soft tannins allow for a huge, "fruit-forward" style wine. This is a wine that will compliment a wide variety of foods ranging from spicy appetizers to prime cut steak to fresh fruit and cheese desserts. Aromatically, this wine offers a lush, ripe nose full of sweet raspberriers and black pepper complimented with hints of oak and earthy tar. It subsequently saturates the palate with raspberries, blackberries, and a touch of swet oak. A nice dollop of fruity tannin and black pepper spice hold and extend the flavors through to a "lip-smacking" finish.

Owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro initially founded Marietta Cellars in 1978 in a rented cow barn in the Dry Creek Valley. The wines of Marietta Cellars are a personification of Chris Bilbro, his outlook on life, and general lifestyle. No wine is complete on its own; pleasurable pursuits such as cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and entertaining add balance to wine, as they do to life. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. Read less

The 2008 Zinfandel (no shy wine at 15.4% natural alcohol) has a dark ruby/purple color and a classic nose of briary black raspberry and black cherry fruit. Supple, fleshy, rich, and full-bodied, it is a total hedonistic delight that should be drunk over the next 4-5 years.

Pleasantly fruity, with high-toned cherry, raspberry and plummy notes that turn smooth and supple. Drink now through 2004.
