Marietta Angeli Cuvee Red Alexander Valley California Wine 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

2003 Marietta Angeli Cuvee Red Alexander Valley wine is crafted in the tradition of many Italian farmers and winemakers who settled in and around the Geyserville area at the beginning of the 20th century. Angeli Cuvee is created from old vines Zinfandel with small amounts of petite sirah and carignane. Carefully made by winemaker and proprietor, Chris Bilbro, this Cuvee is full of rich, velvety, intense fruit. Dark, ruby purple in color, this timeless blend imparts an increased sense of depth and mystery. Gorgeous scents of ripe berry fruits, spice, licorice and black pepper form the complex nose. The extra year in French oak barrels adds a hint of toasty oak to the bouquet. The character of old vines fills the palate with complex layers of deep ripe berry and spice flavors. The tannins are focused in layers jammy fruit carrying the wine to a long lasting finish. The higher level of alcohol adds structure and backbone to aid in the retention of flavor and increased longevity. This is a California Wine.

Owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro initially founded Marietta Cellars in 1978 in a rented cow barn in the Dry Creek Valley. The wines of Marietta Cellars are a personification of Chris Bilbro, his outlook on life, and general lifestyle. No wine is complete on its own; pleasurable pursuits such as cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and entertaining add balance to wine, as they do to life. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. Read less
