Margerum Syrah Santa Ynez Valley Purisima Mountain Vineyard 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

2005 Margerum Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard400 six packs producedUm, wow. This stuff is really good. It is so Colson Canyon. This vineyard gives the most savage, earthy, spice, raw meat, dried blood Syrah that I work with. While some of my 2005 Syrahs are lighter than previous years, this years Colson is the most expressive and complex Colson I have ever produced. It literally gushes out of the glass; full of exotic spice, pepper, and plum fruit. Made from a blend of clone 7 and clone 877 I selected just 5 barrels from the 12 I produced for this bottling. This is a special vineyard and it makes a singularly trademark(able)ly styled wine that is different than any other Syrah grown in Santa Barbara County. Aged in 100% new three year air dried medium toast plus Franois Frres barrels. The wine making was pretty much the same as described above except I racked this wine three times prior to bottling.

Margerum Wine Company:
We are a small producer of Syrah, a Rhone style blend called M5, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and a few other varietals. Our grapes are purchased from the finest growers in Santa Barbara County. In addition, we are beginning to import a few exceptional wines we have found in our travels to the wine regions of Italy and France.
