Marcoux Cotes du Rhone 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"In addition to their Chateauneufs, they own plots in Cotes du Rhone that border the northern edge of the appellation. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that's aged all in concrete. It's supple, seamless and elegant, with sweet blackberry, kirsch, bouquet garni and floral aromas and flavors, and will impress for another 3-4 years. Drink now-2018...90" WA 10/13 "Located in the northern part of the appellation and covering more than 40 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape, this impeccably run estate is managed by Sisters Sophie and Catherine Armenier. The winemaking here is a mix of both traditional and modern techniques, with Grenache seeing mostly concrete tank and stainless steel, and Syrah and Mourvedre both seeing time in smaller barrels. Complete destemming, pump overs as opposed to punch downs, and inoculation are all the norm here. In addition to these fantastic new releases, don't miss the 2010s from this estate." "From the well-known winemaking sisters Catherine Armenier and Sophie Estevenin who run their beloved Châteauneuf du Pape estate of Domaine de Marcoux, this 2012 Côtes du Rhône is made from 40 to 80-year-old Grenache (80%) and Mourvèdre (20%) vines, and spent nine months in concrete tanks. The wine’s deep ruby color is followed by abundant aromas of cassis, pepper, lavender and licorice. A sleeper of the vintage, this medium-bodied, fruit-filled red could easily pass for a Châteauneuf du Pape. Drink it over the next 2-3 years." Robert Parker 11/13

Not bad but not great Cotes du Rhone. Decent amount of blackberry and dark black cherry, fair amount of acidity but the tannins were a bit harsh. This may need some more bottle time.
