Marchesi di Barolo Red Blend Barolo 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Dark and very healthy looking with a red core and deep bronze highlights. Apon opening the nose offers very sweet notes of maderization, notes of tootsie rolls, beef bouillon dominate though there are appealing grace notes of spicy Bergamot tea and cracked pepper. Even after decanting the nose retained it's very brown range of aromatics yielding perfumed notes of sweet notes of potato and beet, old wood, angelica root, dusty parchment and an edge of figgy fruit. In the mouth this originally offered up a quite resolved character with good acidity and a hint of tannin on the finish, meaty and fading across the midpalate it none-the-less retained a very long, toffeed, red fruit finish. After 3 hours the midpalate had become silky with bright acidity and resolved tannins, Medium bodied and with modest intensity of flavor though the midpalate was full of spicy porcini notes to the oxidized and fading fruit notes. the finish was fine and long. I would have preferred a bit more intensity and freshness but his was still complex and satisfying. Drink em if you got em. 2008-012
