Marchesi di Barolo 'Maraia' Barbera Monferrato 2015

Member Review by rstev3:

I don't understand the WS rating at all. This wine is thin, almost watery.

Marchesi di Barolo was and is a winery that has received numerous awards for its wines and has been frequently recognized in the press and media. The products of the winery are distributed through commercial channels to all the major countries of the world. Distribution, like every other aspect of the production chain, is very closely looked after and the clientele is selected based on its demand for high quality. The domestic Italian market absorbs approximately 40% of Marchesi di Barolo’s production, the distribution of which is handled by a well-coordinated network of independent sales agents. Read less

Drink Now- A dark, succulent red, exuding black cherry, blackberry and violet aromas and flavors. Pure and focused, with a long aftertaste of sweet fruit, flowers and spice. Drink now through 2016. 4,250 cases imported. 90 Pts. Wine Spectator #66 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2012! @budgetbottle

Silky with a mild tart cherry taste and some tannins. Something about this made me keep wanting another sip. I had it a la carte but it would be delicious wtih pasta, pizza or sharp cheese.

#66 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012 Really hard to beat the incredible value this vibrant red delivers. Marchesi di Barolo is a historic producer in Piedmont and their portfolio includes extraordinary single vineyard Barolos, but at the introductory end we find this delicious Barbera that’s easy to love from both taste and budget standpoints. Blended with 10% Dolcetto for added smoothness, this wine is brimming with charming ripe cherry fruit and supple racy tannins. The Wine Spectator liked it so much they put it on their Top 100 list. Scoring it 90 points, they said "A dark, succulent red, exuding black cherry, blackberry and violet aromas and flavors. Pure and focused, with a long aftertaste of sweet fruit, flowers and spice."

#66 on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2012. The Cellars of Marchesi di Barolo are located in the village of Barolo, overlooking the castle of the Marquis Falletti. Since 2006, it has been under the direction of the family of Ernesto Abbona.
