Very nice elements of dark berries and vanilla with a medium body and a rich mouth feel. Tannins provide some structure and good acids keep it from feeling mushy. Less of the thin cherry common with Sangiovese, more of the brambly plum that reminds me of some Zins. We ordered this and a Super Tuscan at a group dinner and went back for 3 more of these!

Soft, feminine bouquet of fresh red fruits balanced by nicely integrated oak fragrances and delicate floral undertones. Quite smooth and attractive, a well balanced vino.

The Number 1 Wine of 2011 on the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 List! Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's most historic wineries. Dating to the 1300s, it is also one of the most significant wine producers in Italy, with nine different estates—and roughly 2,500 acres—in Tuscany. The Nipozzano Estate where this Chianti Rufina is produced is an outstanding property that consistently turns out exceptional, high-scoring wine. This 2007 is a prime example. Scoring 93 point in Wine Enthusiast who said "From Frescobaldi’s gorgeous Nipozzano estate, this Riserva Sangiovese (with small percentages of Malvasia Nera, Cabernet and Merlot for extra density and intensity) opens with impressive generosity and personality. It offers lingering flavors of cherry, chocolate and dark spice."

Castello di Nipozzano covers more than 1,500 acres of land in the heart of the Chianti Rufina region, ranging in altitude from 820 to 1,312 feet. Its 593 acres of vines surround a fortress that was built in the 11th century. The 2007, a blend of 90 percent Sangiovese, with the remaining a mix of Malvasia, Colorino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, maintains a high level of quality considering the large volume made.

The attractive, mid-weight 1999 Chianti Rufina Nipozzano Riserva offers black cherry fruit, new saddle leather, and spice box aromas. Well-made, with good acidity as well as aggressive tannin, it should be consumed over the next 5-6 years.

The 2007 Chianti Rufina Riserva shows the open, opulent personality that makes this vintage so alluring. Ripe, silky tannins frame a core of red fruits, flowers and spices, all of which come together with unusual grace. Though medium in body, there is wonderful generosity to the fruit, not to mention fabulous overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.

A burly Rufina, offering dried dark fruits and chewy tannins, with an aftertaste of dark chocolate and mineral. Full and satisfying, with fresh acidity on the back palate. A go-to Chianti. Drink now.
