Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This smells fairly intense with dusty mineral notes, oak notes and leafy edged black currant fruit on the nose, all over dark, leather-dried strawberry fruit. Tight and focused in the mouth and fairly rich up front with nice, slightly vanilla-edged dark berry and dried strawberry fruit. This is rather smooth though there is a base of fine tannin. Some woody tannin emerging on the back end is balanced by soft if lively acids. A touch extracted on the finish, showing an odd blend of sweet, ripe black cherry and grapey fruit and drying, firm tannins, though the fruit manages to stick around for a while. This is a touch rough around the edges. 88pts

D/H 2013-2020- The 2008 Chianti Rufina Riserva Nipozzano is a very beautiful wine in this vintage. It shows attractive mid-palate juiciness in its sweet red berries, crushed flowers and spices. This mid-weight, delicate Chianti is best enjoyed over the next few years while the fruit retains its freshness. The Nipozzano is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Malvasia Nera, Colorino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine spent 24 months in French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Score: 89. —Antonio Galloni, August 2011. @ryebrook

A soft-spoken Chianti that hides layers of depth. Hints of leather surround the cherry, raspberry, and strawberry notes on the nose. The tannins are quite underspoken, but they finish stronger. The wine is an elegant grower, revealing depth as you sip. It is quite indicative of the milder weather of the 2008 vintage.

The nose is remarkably rich and multi-faceted, showing cleanly-delineated aromas of sour cherry, raspberry, and dried plum, lifted in turn by spicier impressions of black pepper, vanilla, cocoa powder, and espresso bean.

Chianti Rufina Riserva is a soft, accessible, fruit-driven Chianti. It offers good length although the intensity drops off a little on the mid-palate. Ideally there might be a little more Sangiovese character.

The 2007 Chianti Rufina Riserva shows the open, opulent personality that makes this vintage so alluring. Ripe, silky tannins frame a core of red fruits, flowers and spices, all of which come together with unsual grace. Though medium in body, there is wonderful generosity to the fruit, not to mention fabulous overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.

A deep, purple-edged ruby red, of impressive brilliance. Solid fruit notes of wild blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and dark cherry emerge initially on the nose, gradually yielding to more pungent impressions of sage, rosemary, vanilla, and cinnamon. That spiciness segues onto the palate, and then into a finish that ends with a flourish of balsam, black pepper, and cocoa powder. The mid-palate shows alcoholic warmth and roundedness, while the tannins and acidity are noticeable, adding to the wine's overall harmony.

The successor to the Wine Enthusiast Number 1 Wine of the Year in 2011 this 2008 shows the remarkable consistency that this estate is known for. Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's most historic wine producers, dating to the 1300s. It is also one of the most significant producers in Italy, with nine different estates—and roughly 2,500 acres—in Tuscany. The Nipozzano Estate where this Chianti Rufina is produced is an outstanding property that consistently turns out exceptional, high-scoring wine. Jame Suckling gave it 91 points saying "Fresh plums and blueberries, with dark chocolate. Subtle aromas. Full body, with round and soft tannins and a long rich finish. A little chewy now. Better in 2012."
